Educational Programs
Learning through play — programmes for schools, children’s groups and young people, designed and delivered by a museum educator.
2026 Programme
A detailed guide to all of this year’s educational programmes.
The role of the modern museum is a social one: it makes the museum a centre of knowledge, education, recreation, creativity and aesthetic experience, open and accessible to all. Beyond curating and preserving its exhibition, it offers guided tours, workshops, seminars, conferences, lectures, temporary exhibitions, musical and theatrical events — and it “steps outside its walls” through museum kits and object loans.
Through its educational programmes, and with the involvement of museum educators, knowledge about the objects on display is passed on. Learning is achieved through play, using specially designed material that encourages inquiry and prompts the gathering of information.
The Museum of Asia Minor Hellenism “Filio Haidemenou” takes visitors on a journey through the history of the Hellenism that lived and flourished in Asia Minor for millennia. The collection comprises around 1,700 exhibits covering various thematic aspects of the Greek presence in Asia Minor, enriched with the narratives and testimonies of refugees.
Schools and children’s groups take part in our programmes through organised visits, which also aim at broader collaboration with teachers.
Museum Kit "Once Upon a Time in Asia Minor"
The Museum has a museum kit themed on everyday life in Asia Minor before the destruction of Smyrna and the uprooting. It can be used by all three levels of education that teach the history of Asia Minor, and is available for loan.
